What are the benefit of sound therapy? That is often a question I receive from the participants.
There are many benefits that are both tangible and intangible and science can only reveal a few things about the sound therapy.
Some scientific research indicates that relaxing sound (music and nature sound) relaxes the mind and autonomic nervous system is back to the baseline (where people are at the neutral state) and thus many clinical therapies today incorporate relaxing music to enhance the effect of their therapies.
Many observational studies on singing bowl, gong, tingsha and other traditional harmonic instrument show us the effectiveness to increase feelings of relaxation, reducing the feelings of stress and also depression and anxiety. Some studies also have demonstrated that certain physical pains are reduced.
The main theory behind this is that the sound waves created by these instruments and the brain waves create an entrainment effect; stimulation convinces the brain’s activity to synchronize to the external stimulation. Nepali singing bowl sound therapists who have been in this alternative therapy for generations claim that the vibration of the sound shifts some blockages (physically and energetically) in our body as the majority of our body is made of water that reacts to the sound vibration.
What are the benefits?
though everyone experiences differently, many benefits are observed including….
-Reduces stress & increase the sense of relaxation
-Improves the endocrine disorder
-Accelerate the healing process (physically & emotionally) that one is going through
-Encouraging the flow of Qi & releasing the energy no longer serving us
-Decreases blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate
Precautions & Contradictions to note:
- Fitted with pacemaker
- Suffer with Menier’s disease
- Suffer from mental health issues (certain emotions may be triggered and thus inform the practitioner beforehand if you already know that you are suffering from certain mental health conditions)
- Sound sensitive individuals
- 1st 3months of pregnancy (highly possible that you have a greater sensitivity to sounds and thus it may be unpleasant for you during this period).
Sound therapy is a powerful alternative healing modality that is available to us throughout our humanity. If this resonates with you, this is for you. If this does not resonate with you, this may not be for you. The most important thing in choosing healing modality is to feel the resonance. I hope this helps you to identify what works for you.
